Petroleum (Quality Control) Act

For the purposes of this Act, petroleum is contaminated if a sample of any category of petroleum to which this subsection applies displays characteristics which are inconsistent with the prescribed characteristics for that category of petroleum. Any licensed retailer or licensed haulage contractor who knows or has reason to suspect that any contaminated petroleum is in his possession or under his control shall forthwith make a report at the nearest police station or notify an inspector.

THE PETROLEUM AND OIL FUEL (LANDING AND STORAGE) ACT

This act regulates that petroleum giving off inflammable vapour at any temperature lower than seventy-three degrees of Fahrenheit’s thermometer shall not be imported into, stored, or sold in this Island in vessels containing more than eight fluid ounces each except in steel or tin vessels so constructed as to prevent leakage or escape of vapour there from; every such steel or tin vessel being marked in conspicuous characters with a recognized description of its contents, such as petrol, gasoline, naphtha, or other appropriate name with the addition of the words “Highly inflammable. Do not approach this vessel with a light or fire of any description”.

Electric Lighting Act.

Under this act the Minister may from time to the license any Local Authority as defined by this Act, or any company or person, to supply electricity under this Act for any public or private purposes within any area. the licence may make such regulations as to the limits within which, and the conditions under which, a supply of electricity is to be provided, and for enforcing the performance by the licensees of their duties in relation to such supply, and for the revocation of the licence where the licensees fail to perform such duty, and generally may contain such regulations and conditions as the Minister may think expedient

THE ELECTRICITY (FREQUENCY CONVERSION) ACT

For the purposes of this Act, there shall be established a body to be known as the Electricity Frequency Standardization Commission. The Commission shall be a body corporate having perpetual succession and a common seal with power to purchase, take, hold and dispose of land and other property of whatever kind for the purposes of this Act. The Commission may sue and be sued in their corporate name and may for all purposes be described by such name.

THE PETROLEUM REFINING INDUSTRY (ENCOURAGEMENT) ACT

The following act norms The Petroleum Refining Industry in the island. Under it, the Minister may on an application made pursuant to section 4, by order, approve a company which is operating or proposes to operate a petroleum refinery as a recognized refiner of oil for the purposes of this Act if he is satisfied (a) that the operation of the refinery is or will be of benefit to the Island, both economic and non economic considerations being taken into account; (b) that the company is adequately financed; has adequately trained personnel in its employ or is able to obtain the services of such personnel; has access to the necessary technical information; is able to obtain adequate raw materials; and possesses or will possess the necessary petroleum refinery. On the application of a recognized refiner of oil, the Minister may, upon such conditions as he may think fit, amend an order made under subsection (1) in respect of the site of the petroleum refinery specified therein, if the Mini

THE CLEAN AIR ACT

Under this Act it is the duty of the Central Health Committee to carry into effect the provisions of this Act. Any expenses properly incurred in carrying into effect the provisions of this Act shall be paid out of moneys provided for the purpose in the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure of the Island. The Minister may appoint such number of inspectors as he considers necessary for carrying into effect the provisions of this Act. An inspector on production of his authority if so required may enter any affected premises at any time while work is being carried on there, or while there is any discharge of smoke or fumes or gases or dust into the air from any part of such premises and may inspect and examine such premises or any part thereof and may make such enquiries, and make such tests and take such samples of any substance, smoke, fumes, gas or dust as he considers necessary or proper for the performance of his duties.

THE NATIONAL WATER COMMISSION ACT

There is hereby established a body to be called the National Water Commission which shall be a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal and with power to acquire, hold and dispose of property, to enter into contracts, to sue and be sued in its said name and to do all things necessary for the purposes of this Act: Provided that, during the subsistence of a guarantee given under section 9, the Commission shall not alienate, mortgage, charge or demise any of its immovable property without the approval of the Minister responsible for finance.
